Our Futures Were Written With Crayons In Colouring Books

The assignment: Draw a Cowboy.

Non Sum Qualis Eram

First and foremost; breaking my (for the most part) strict song-lyrics-as-blog-post-title rule for this one, but it's a book quote (easily wikipedia'd) that was too perfect to pass up.

Anyway...

This half of the semester in my Life Drawing/ Painting class, I made a proposition to a friend of mine, Jaime, that maybe he and I could work on a single piece one class. Well we enjoyed doing it, and decided to take that a step further; we worked on that same piece together for seven weeks, always building on top of what we did the previous week. As well, each piece had to stand on its own at the end of the day.

This is the product of that experiment:

My Name Is You

I was wearing a Superman shirt as I painted this. Also, by this point, it is equal parts paint and photoshop

Really, What's a Bigger Man?

Some life drawings from my class this semester. The first two are fair sized, the last two are about 3 feet tall, give or take a bit. I must say, I do enjoy working oversized.

You Say You Hear Human Voices...

... But They're Only Echoes

I Was Alone So I Set A Fire, And Wasted It All On You

Last night I preferred the version with the light spots, but today, I don't know, I'm liking the one without more so.

Rather than pick between the two, since I'm not using this for anything anyway, I decided to post both.

Grapevine Fires

Trees Will Make a Forest

0032 - When I Fly Solo, I Fly So High

Life Drawings 02b

Oversized Pieces

0018 - I Need Somebody Close

Not finished as much as I'd have liked it to be,

but no more time to work on it.

0013 - Remember to Remember to Forget You Forgot Me

Sincerely Yours: Green

At huSH Art you can find a comparison of this with an old self portrait of mine.

0001 - You Mean Everything to Nothing

Have a lot more to mention today than usual.

1 - www.hushart.com

2 - With little build up, but hopefully much follow through. Today is the first day of Daily Drawing. I'll be drawing something and posting every day, ideally for a year, hopefully at least through the summer, realistically... well, who knows.

Tell your friends.

3 - This image specifically, I worked on here and there this past week. I finished it today just in time to post it as the first image. I think this band is amazing and I had the pleasure of seeing them live not long ago, so I was inspired to do a little free form painting of them. They're called Manchester Orchestra, whom you should check out before you even finish this sentence.

Wow, you fail.

P.S. Most of the following drawings definitely won't be this finished.

A Painting

A quick-ish study done for painting classes I had missed.

Hopefully it's accepted

Welcome (you or me?)

The thought crossed my mind recently to startup a blog, as a way to possibly feel the need to do art more often. The ever successful method of tricking myself.

To get things started, here are three portraits I did for my Life Drawing class
