I won't let my moods ruin this you'll see

Some process work for today's page of Traded Stars; page 61.
This page I did a little differently and recorded the process, so I thought I would share that process here.

I started off with thumbnails of the layout/ compositions. Then instead of going ahead and drawing those thumbnails, I drew in the background of the page first. Followed by drawing the people on top.

The last page is where you can see exactly what I drew on top and where I had to erase to accommodate the characters.

You can see I stick fairly close to the thumbnails, but I don't mind changing panels to better suit the flow of the page. The last panel was changed so that the last three images all flowed together in one direction visually.

Following All The Rules And Not Asking Why

This illustration was done for an article about how society can sometimes call anyone who enlists in the army a hero, even though heroes should be considered people who go above and beyond the call of duty. So the question becomes; who do we consider a hero?

I have the finished illustration here, as well as some of my other ideas/ composition studies/ and a linear.

You've Probably Gone Too Far

If a blog wasn't enough, you can follow me on twitter at; http://twitter.com/_StevenHughes_
Yay for social networking... Wait for a twitter update about this blog post about twitter updates. And because I don't feel right posting without a little something other than words strung together, here's a preview of tomorrow's comic page (to be posted Friday 12:01 AM)

Washing Off My Name

In The Ocean Washing Off My Name From Your Throat
I've been taking August fairly easy, Illustration wise. This is a small piece from an upcoming project. I'll continue to update this month, just unsure with what yet. Winging the last month of my summer.

You're Probably Too Busy With Your Work

I've been working at Rubicon Publishing for my internship. It's been keeping me busy - not too busy that I haven't been working on personal work, but I want a few more illustrations done before I update with my own stuff.
So I'm half done the internship now, and thought this was as good a time as any to share some of the things I've been working on. I saved all the 'money shots' from the comics and I have only put up pieces from here and there. As you'll see I've worked on a couple types of illustrations;

An establishing shot for a vampire comic I worked on.

Several panels from the aforementioned comic.

Another (uncoloured) comic page, this time from a comic about warring rats. Had a lot of fun with this comic.

These rat drawings are in no relation to the previous comic. These images were to be drawn as if a rat from a children's comic had tried to do little doodles on their adventure. Only 6 of these pieces will be used if I understood correctly.

A more scientific type drawing of a man in a neck brace, and by scientific, I mean 'how I'd do a loose scientific drawing.'

We're The Same, Oh But In A Different Way

Business card designs for a Graphic Design assignment. In the end since it was not a real business card for me, I didn't worry about selling the illustration part of things, but rather just making an interesting looking business card.

Also, a lot of the process business cards on the way to this finished one.

We Need Vices

I drew a couple rough self portraits for my completely new and redesigned website. I had a couple pages without artwork and they just felt empty. The first was simple enough, while the second image was a small pencil sketch, it looks like me a few years down the road but I didn't mind so I left it as is. Hopefully I'll have time to complete some real artwork soon.

Sure That They're Being Watched

Came across this in my sketchbook last night - I had pulled out my sketchbook briefly during one class while bored, sketched some people who were in my line of sight.
Doing some cleaning, organizing my room, I'd say for the new year, but mostly just because I had the time on my hand. I don't know if I'll have anything else posted by the end of the year, but I'll try to get something up.

Hope That I Don't See You Anymore

While I was at work today, decided to finish this little project that was long overdue. I drew these nine pages near the beginning of the summer, but never got around to colouring the last three pages.
The concept is one story, but told in three genres at three stages of completion.

Watch It All Burn Away

Grapevine Fires

How my little experiment came to be; little by little, with many, many changes along the way.
The first incarnation was a couple picnic..ing on a hill with the girl dancing in the distance. The fire took up the whole sky, but that changed early on into the plumes of smoke, which I literally dreamed of, I saw that smoke in a dream.

0056 - Flying At Tree Level

Cleaning up a pile of art from the year. Here's some trees I sketched to kill time from one of my media studies classes. On another note, I have been drawing today, just nothing ready for posting yet.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

A quick ink of an ugly Vogon ship approaching Earth.
Funny books, I'm on the fourth now;
So Long, and Thanks for all the Fish

0051 - Underneath the Waves, You Were Most Alone

So Lost finale was definitely not a disappointment.
The series as a whole may have lacked tight storytelling in retrospect, but the ending got me.

0043 - WIP

Been trying to finish off an art project so I could move onto a new one next weekend and then got sidetracked by the beautiful day, so I forgot about my LOST piece.
I was going to try and finish it in time, but I've been rushing blog posts too often, I want to do this one right. So I'm going to complete it first thing in the afternoon when I wake up.
Until then, here's a sneak peak.
